Creative Critical Reflection

  1. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

Crayola doesn’t exactly represent a social issue however you can say that Crayola represents a social group. The brand is heavily marketed towards young children which you could claim represents a social group. You can also state that Crayola challenges conventions by being usable and sold of high quality around multiple countries for a relatively cheap price. Crayola is available to a variety of groups of people to use to express themselves.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Not going to lie, I don’t really understand this question all too much. I’m going to guess and say it’s asking how it would do if it was a real commercial.

The product, Crayola, more specifically their crayons, engages the audience by being a hand-on product. The product allows the consumer to express themselves in a simple and healthy way. The ad can be seen as those semi-relaxing ads that some companies come out with.

  1. 3.How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Our production skill didn’t exactly evolve since it was only a two-day shot. Even sowe figured out where we work the best. Me and Rose are best as actorsZahra is best as the camera woman while Vanessa is best as an editor.

I would say that this taught me to not let anyone in my group or me, myself, film vertically. We filmed the majority of the footage in horizontal but the footage of us coloring in vertical. It really messed us up, especially since that footage was really important. From now on, I’ll make sure the person filming is filming the right way.

 4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

We used Rose’s phone to film our footage. Vanessa used her apple computer to edit the footage and fix our mistakes. Since the Blogger decided to be a pain, I had to upload the final product to YouTube which I believe would count.

Crayola Commercial Blog

This project has been kind of stressful. At face front, this assignment seems very simple but once you begin doing it, hair pulling.
So what went wrong?

Let's begin with the fact that we had to do two blogs when we first started; not completely bad but highly stressful. Then we ended up messing up big time by recording wrong. See, most of our commercial was filmed horizontally however the part of us coloring and getting up was vertical. We have been working on fixing it for the past week and it's just a big mess. Finally, the blogger is being a pain. It wouldn't let us upload it normally. Now we have to upload it to YouTube and then add it to the blogger. This assignment is so trouble some.

Final editing blog for commercial

Today was our final day to work on the commercial in class. My group's commercial is about Crayola crayons. We filmed our commercial out by the picnic benches on the patio. We colored in the commercial and Rose walked in it. Zahra was our camera women while Vanessa is our editor.

We talked during the filming which has to be taken out. We have to add in some nice background music, not the bad kind. I kind of want to add some type of happy soft music.

We had to add all the clips together since they were out of order. Some of the clips were filmed differently. Some were vertical while some were horizontal. This obviously caused a problem for our editor.

The teacher said that we could go out and refilm some scenes today. I kind of think we should have gone out and refilm some stuff to make it easier to edit. We ended up not going out and staying in. Even so our editor, over come it!

This 30 second video has been so stressful for some reason. It's just 30 seconds yet we have to put so much hard work into it. I thought a little commercial would be super easy.

I just hope, that our group gets a passing grade.

Crayola editing blog start

My group has finally finished filming our commercial. We filmed the commercial over two days of class. Our commercial is about Crayola crayons. The way we filmed our commercial was in multiple clips. The walking clip is a tracking scene. The garbing of the crayons is a tracking combined with a pan. The other clips are multiple angles with us coloring.

Our group has to figure out how to edit all the clips together. We tried to make it easy to transition while we were filming. We hoped to had done this by connecting the scenes while filming. Hopefully we  didn't mess it up super bad during filming.

Another thing we have to do is edit out sound. During filming, we would give verbal signs on what to do. For example, when we had to leave the table we were coloring on, Zahra told us quite loudly to get up.

At the same time, we can't leave it completely soundless. If there's no sound it will be very awkward and have no atmosphere however the sound matters too. We can't just add in rock and roll. That type of sound wouldn't match up. I don't think classical would match up either though?  Maybe lofi or like soft piano but happy soft piano if that makes sense?

All I know is that our group has a lot of work to do. I hope we can work it out.

Caroyla filming blog final

Today was our last and final day of filming for our commercial. The filming was highly successful and we managed to get all of our shots.

This time when we go outsides the security guards would bother us while we were setting up our set for filming. I understand that they were just doing their job however it was very annoying to constantly have guards come up to us one after another to ask the same question.

Besides that, our session was pretty good. We filmed most of our commercial today since last time we only got a few scenes that we ended up not needing. Our group was once again one member short so we were left with less people to help then we would have liked.

During filming we found out that Zahra is actually a really good camera woman. We swiped out Rose's filming with Zahra's and had her act like the main actor. We made her redo the scene where she grabs the crayons and the walking scenes.

We set up one of the picnic tables with blank pieces of papers and pre-drawn drawings. We had to tape down the paper because I swear the wind was trying to make us fail. We had to multiple times, chase after paper that went flying.  After we had filmed Rose coming to the table we showed me and her drawing with the Crayola crayons. We had to leave after a certain amount of time in the scene. Every time we had to leave I would always end up taking the crayon with me.

I believe the next stage is for us to edit. I am quite concern about that stage since we need to edit out a lot especially sound. I hope everyone gets a good grade and for our commercial to come out good.
