starting filming blog

 Today me and my group went out to film today. Vanessa was sadly absent today. We, as a group decided, to do the easier scenes and to draw some props. 


In the first shots, we filmed were of me running near the side of the media stairs. This scene made me realize just how unhealthy I am and I wasn't even full on raining. I really need to join a sport. It also show me how good of a camera woman Rose is. 


The next shot we filmed right before we started working on our props. Rose filmed a pan into the Crayola box as Zahra snatched our box of Crayola crayons from the table. The shot came out perfect and we did not have to do a single retake. Afterwards we began working on props we would use in the scenes we'll film on Monday. Zahra drew her cute little dinosaur. I drew a cat and puppy saying I love you and a peace sign. Rose drew herself a cute little panda!

After we finished out drawings, we realized that we should film one more scene so we went with the third scene on the story board. Which was just another running scene I had to do. And oh man, if I wasn't dying in the first running scene. This one was 10x worse. It was a longer distance then the one on the stairs. I seriously need to join a sport or something. 


Hopefully Monday, our full group shows up and we get much more work done.

Story board blog

 First Scene-

During this scene we will be filming a kid running into a classroom. The shot will be a closeup-medium shot and a tracking shot. The first location will be a classroom. We wanted to include a classroom since Crayola products are mostly used in schools. The dress code is going to be school wear just so the audience knows that these are students.

Second Scene-

The next scene we wanted to include for our commercial is the kid going to a desk and grabbing the Crayola products. There will be a pan shot for the products right before the kid grabs it. This shot is going to be a closeup shot.

Third Scene- The third scene we wanted to include in our commercial was the kid running to other kids. The location for the scene is on the bridge to Fort Lauderdale’s main office building. This will be a medium shot. 

Fourth Scene- 

The fourth scene will be a kid drawing. Then it will tilt to show more kids drawing. This scene emphasizes how likable Crayola is. It also emphasizes how Crayola brings people together.

Fifth Scene-

The fifth scene for our commercial will be the kids leaving the bridge. This would be a medium shot.

Sixth Scene-

The sixth scene will be an outward zoom to look at everything created with the Crayola products. In the background you will hear Crayola’s motto, “Crayola: create, create, create”. Then, the video will fade out.

*Each scene will have its own side effects in the background.

Research Blog

 Today mw and my group decided to start our research about our commercial topic. We have been discussing for a few days and finally came up with a topic. That topic being Crayola crayons. We will use this commercial to "promote" them, but we need our research to do it properly. 

With this research, we looked at different Crayola commercials and seeing what happens in them portray it accurately as well as doing other things.

What was in the commercial?

  • Children using the markers/having fun with markers.
  • Bright colors and really bright lighting.
  • Lots of laughing and smiles
  • Narrator voice over
  • Soothing feeling   

To be able to recreate the same feeling and nostalgia that we got from watching those commercials in the past, that will be when we know we are doing something right as we would like to send the same image as the original commercials. It teaches us the importance of having and making a colorful world out of nothing but small pencil shaped pieces of color. We would love to be able to express power and creativity it did for themselves. Naturally when watch a Crayola commercial, the actors are mostly kids as the company often aims for that age range. We will not be using actors from that age range, but we will try to make it more appealing to the age range we are in now. We will not have many props to go around except for the basics like the Crayola supplies and paper. We will try to match that same set up that the commercial provided. Of course, there's a chance where this might go down hill and with this idea in mind we have a back up plan we can rely on.

When observing old Crayola commercials feels and styles, they often contain a wonderland like feel with bright colors and it would be a pain for some and comforting for others. It's nice to look at but even harder to recreate with less professional equipment. We would like to recreate some acting that usually happens in those commercials and use the dialogue from it and put it in our newly revision part. Our group will try our best to make this happen and earn the grade we will get for this; we would like to dedicate a lot of time to this to get it done. With this, we will be signing off with research for today and try get more for tomorrow. 


       

Planning Blog

 Props: Our commercial is going to be about Crayola. So, our group will be using Crayola products like Crayola markers and Crayola crayons. There will be other props. These other props include: paper and sticky notes. These props will really help tie together our commercial.

Costumes: In our commercial, everyone will have a turn to be on camera. The outfits will be school appropriate outfits. This will help emphasize that we’re school students. 


Schedule: 

On 9/23/21, our group researched conventions and codes of Crayola commercials.

On 9/23/21, our group planned out the props, costumes, schedule, location list and back up plan.

On 9/28/21, our group will complete our storyboard.

On 9/30/21 and 10/4/21, our group will record the necessary footage we need for our commercial.

On 10/6/21 and 10/8/21, our group will edit the footage.

On 10/8/21, our group will submit the final product.


Location: 

Our main location is Ms.Marchionne’s classroom. In her classroom, we will create different pieces of art. This concept will show how you can make different things with Crayola products. The fact that the commercial is taking place in a classroom that anyone can use will help communicate that the consumer does not need to go anywhere special to be able to use Crayola at their full potential.  


Backup Plan:

If the classroom ends up overcrowded, our group has decided to write positive messages and stick them around the school on a sticky note. This concept will help emphasize Crayola’s accepting attitude towards all types of art forms.

Group Blog

 I have decided to work in a group with 3 of my classmates. My group members are Rose Altes, Zahra Bbrnard, and Vanessa Decimas. I decided to work with Rose because I have known her since the 7th grade. While I just met Vanessa and Zahra, I trust them enough with my grade. The instant bond we had together give me confidence that communication will be easy with each other. Within one class period, we were able to pick out a brand. We picked out Crayola. Crayola will give us the ability to do nearly all we want. We were also able to decide on how to split up the work amongst ourselves. Each section will have two people working on it as a team. Me and Rose are planning to split the storyboard in half between us. I am quite interested in how our two art styles are going to mix. Me and Zahra are going to do the planning. Rose and Vanessa are going to do the research.  


I usually don't do group projects however with this class, it seems to be impossible to work by ones self. Hopefully, this class will help me get out of my shell. I feel like you need to talk a lot in this class to get anything done. I hope to be able to complete every part on time. I hope we get a good grade. 

I put my trust in these girls and their ability to pull each one of us through.

Intro Blog

 Hello,

My name is Shannon McCauley. I'm in my Sophomore year of high school. I am currently taking Aice Media Studies. This class, while looking incredibly difficult, looks kind of fun. I have never had a class like this one before and I'm curious to see how I will improve with this course. I'm most excited for the storyboards and music video. 

The storyboards I feel like would be a good way to improve my art and honestly it just sounds super fun. The music video I believe I will thrive in. I already have some ideas in mind! I know for sure I want to film at least something in the woods for this class. I also want to include a scene where someone is drench. I also want one where someone is destroying a cake, I love those type of scenes in stuff. 

I'm quite scare for the commercial and the film I believe we have to do at the end of the year. The commercial scares me because I have absolutely no clue on what to do and the fact that we have such little time to film it also freaks me out. 

This class freaks me out a lot. I have no idea what I'm doing in this class which is new. I usually know what my classes are going to be like but this subject is something I've never try. I have absolutely no idea how to edit videos. I have no idea on filming either. Plus these assignments are going to have us working with a lot of people which I have a hard time doing but even so I must carry on from my doubts and work hard in this class.
